Behind the Curtain - Newsies (Woodland Park Players)

Newsies is one of those special musicals, especially here at The Sound on Stage. From the original movie (starring a then-unknown Christian Bale) to the Broadway production and it's streaming debut on Disney+, and through to its national tours and regional performances, the story continues to resonate in a world where people are determined to rise up from repression to take control of their own lives and their own narratives. The latest production of Newsies comes to Shoreline this weekend and is being produced by the Woodland Park Players. The show runs from July 31 through August 2 at the Shoreline College Theatre, is directed and choreographed by Jessica Low, and produced by our guest on this episode of Behind the Curtain with The Sound on Stage, Linda Joss.

Linda is the Executive Producer and Founder of Woodland Park Players and she's been kind enough to take a few minutes out of a busy tech week to talk about the show and its focus on providing young actors an opportunity to perform in a high quality production. We've also squeezed a bit of a Get to Know a Theatre crossover here as well, with Linda providing the history of Woodland Park Players, the organizations's philosophy of programming, what's next for the group, and how we can all support them.
