Behind the Curtain - Ingvar! A Musical Furniture Saga (Latitude Theatre)
In our latest episode of Behind the Curtain with The Sound on Stage, we're going international! Ingvar! A Musical Furniture Saga tells the story of IKEA founder Ingvar Kamprad in a very unique way. With a mix of humor, music derived from a combination of influences, and a well-constructed narrative, Ingvar! is the must-see theatrical event of the summer. It runs on stage at the TPS Center Theatre (at the Seattle Armory) through August 24 and is a show not to be missed.
Presented by Latitude Theatre and directed by Christopher Kidder-Mostrom, this world premiere translation (the first time the show is being performed in English) is told through music, dance, and humor, along with a bit of an interrogation of the pitfalls of capitalism and consumerism run amok.
We had the pleasure of being joined by one of the co-writers of the show, and the original lyricist Klas Abrahamsson, the translator for the English version of the story Ann Henning Jocelyn, and Christopher Kidder-Mostrom, who is also the show's choreographer and the Artistic Director of Latitude Theatre.
We spoke about how the piece came to be, the work it took to translate it into English, and the magic used to bring it to life in Seattle. For more information about the show, please visit Latitude Theatre's website at https://latitudetheatre.org/index.html.
