Between the Pages - Exotic Deadly/Hell’s Canyon (Keiko Green)
It's one thing for a playwright to have one play opening in a single city in one weekend, but for Keiko Green, winner of our 2024 Sound on Stage Award for Best Original Production (Bed Trick), audiences have twice the opportunity to see her work, in two vastly different plays. The first, Exotic Deadly: Or the MSG Play, opens at the Theatre Off Jackson on Saturday, September 6 and runs through the 20th, while Hell's Canyon opens the night before at 12th Avenue Arts and is on stage through the 21st.
Keiko was kind enough to take time out of her extremely busy schedule to talk about both plays, the former a co-production from Pork Filled Productions and SIS Productions, and the latter from Washington Ensemble Theatre, how it is writing in multiple genres (Exotic Deadly is a comedy while Hell's Canyon skews more toward horror), how she juggles her writing among all of the projects she's working on, and within those projects the humor and messaging, and what goes into a title, among a number of other topics.
